* * *

Too much time has passed by to
lament that we were deeply in love.
The wind keeps blowing, while my heart
cannot heal all the tears in it.

Watching tomorrow with one eye
while keeping the other on yesterday…
If only I could peacefully sleep
in the cradle of your love again.

Someone, cry for me with parched eyes.

The real folk blues.
I only want to know what true sadness is.
Sitting in muddy water
isn't such a bad life,
if it ends after the first time.

Despair filled with hope,
and this chance with a trap set.
What's right or wrong?
It's like two sides of a coin.

How long must I live till I'm healed?

The real folk blues.
I only want to know what true happiness is…
All that glitters is not gold.

The real folk blues.
I only want to know what true sadness is.
Sitting in muddy water
isn't such a bad life,
if it ends after the first time.

It's the closing theme to an anime called Cowboy Bebop. The song has a very bluesy feel to it (not the standard, generic blues riff). I thought the lyrics were rather pretty-sounding the first time I heard them a couple years ago. Over time, I've found several translations, but this one best captures what the song (and the show) are really about. When I get home this afternoon, I can email you an mp3 copy of the song.

Cowboy Bebop is, on one level, a science-fiction action/adventure/comedy/drama about a group of disparate bounty hunters - a mercenary, a former policeman, a woman with no memory of who she previously was, and a little girl who's long been separated from her parents. Just below the surface of the show, however, is an appreciable depth virtually never found in mainstream American animation.

The show questions many things... what it means to be "alive," what it is that defines who you are, what your past matters versus your present and your future, and so on.

But for whatever reason, the song was on my mind this morning, so I posted the lyrics. :-)

The puppy is sleeping in my lap...I literally feel like this is a dry run for motherhood...except when I told my mom she said babies are easier-you just give them a tit and put them down for a nap.thanks mom.
